Who am I?
Ligia Dias CostaLigia Dias Costa

When my father asked me to translate a Report and Accounts from a bank, at the age of 16 (!), I never would have thought that I would do this professionally.

In fact, I did not do it full time for quite a while. However, the passion for languages and communication was always on the backstage making me translate part-time.

I started to translate full time after I discovered another passion of mine: medicine. I worked in a large multinational company in the healthcare sector and found out a true fascination for medical devices, clinical procedures and how to help people have a better life.

Although I am not a medical doctor, I do my continuous develop training and medical courses every time I have a chance for it. I also attend every conference I can, either from the translation industry of from the medical sector. I cannot list them here, as the aesthetic of my site would be seriously impaired!

Working methods

I am a firm believer in the native speaker concept. Therefore, I only work into European Portuguese, from English, French and Spanish. Recently, though, due to the vast demand of my regular clients, I partnered with an excellent Brazilian translator, to handle that Portuguese variant as well.

I work with the latest computer hardware and software, including Trados 2014, otherwise known as a CAT (computer-assisted-translation) tool. This does not mean that I do not translate. No. These types of programs help me manage terminology and create a dedicated memory for your company, so that I can ensure consistency throughout the years (hopefully) of collaboration with you.

I sure would love to sit around a fire with a beer and swap cultural stories.
But if you’d like to talk about work, I can do that, too.
